Visa changes for skilled migrants

18 April 2017

The Commonwealth Government has made changes to the visa eligibility criteria for skilled migrants.

The Skilled Occupation List (SOL) is being replaced by the Medium and Long term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).

A Short term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) has also been created.

Applicants previously applying for nomination under an occupation on the Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List (CSOL) must now use the Department of Immigration and Border Protection's Combined List of Eligible Skilled Occupations, which includes all occupations on the STSOL and certain eligible occupations on the MLTSSL.

In making these changes, the Commonwealth Government has effectively removed 216 eligible occupations.

To review the full list of occupations deleted by the Commonwealth Government go to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website.

Victoria’s visa nomination occupation lists have been updated to reflect these changes - effective immediately.
