Meeting the minimum eligibility requirements for Victorian skilled state sponsorship is the first step in our assessment processes, however it does not guarantee an application will be successful.
You can check Victoria’s minimum eligibility requirements for state sponsored visas by selecting the relevant state sponsored visa subclass from our skilled visas page.
Every application for state sponsorship is assessed individually with a focus on the applicant’s ability to address a number of assessment criteria, including:
- your ability to meet the minimum eligibility requirements
- the demand for your particular skills and expertise, and your ability to find work in Victoria
- the suitability and transferability of your qualifications, skills and experience - including any specialist capabilities - to the needs of Victoria’s labour market
- your ability and commitment to establishing yourself, and any dependents, in Victoria with a view to your prospects for long-term settlement in Victoria, and
- the demand for your occupation in relation to the annual sponsorship places allocated for that industry.
Applicants who best meet the assessment criteria are offered sponsorship. Meeting the minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee sponsorship.
Resume or Curriculum vitae
All applications must include a resume or curriculum vitae (CV) with a chronological and detailed employment history. This is a critical part of the application. It is used to determine the applicant's suitability for Victorian skilled state sponsorship, and it should be professional, descriptive and relevant. It must provide evidence of skills and work experience and a detailed, sequential list of all relevant employment including an explanation of any gaps in employment.
The CV should be three to four pages long and must include:
- detailed descriptions of relevant tasks and responsibilities performed within all employment
- dates of employment (including month and year), and
- dates of education and training.
Please see the sample CV for a guide on preparing a CV to support a sponsorship application.
A relevant job offer from a Victorian employer can provide evidence of work readiness and employability.
Applications will be refused if the accompanying CV is too brief or does not include the required details. If an application is refused, the waiting period for resubmitting an application is six months after the application has been closed.
Victoria’s state sponsorship assessment selects the best qualified and experienced candidates for sponsorship, so it is imperative that applicants present their best case for sponsorship through a well written and documented CV.
Unsuccessful state sponsorship applications
Due to the high number of state sponsorship applications we are unable to provide feedback on unsuccessful applications.
For the best chance of success, it is important that agents and individual applicants read and understand the relevant minimum eligibility requirements of the visa and assessment criteria.
