The City of Maroondah has a population of approximately 103,800 (Census 2011, ABS) and is widely acknowledged as the eastern suburbs' primary commercial and industrial centre. Close to the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges, this region is a mixture of new and established neighborhoods.

Maroondah features a number of spacious reserves and parklands. Over 75 per cent of the population were born in Australia.
