Skilled Migration Process

  1. Step 1

Compare Skilled Visas to identify the General Skilled Migration visa that is best suited to your current circumstances and needs. You should also view the visa wizard on the Department of Immigration and Citizenship's (DIAC) website.

  2. Step 2

Identify the eligibility requirements you need to meet to lodge a valid application. If you require state/territory sponsorship in support of your application, you can apply online for state visa sponsorship from the Victorian Government.

  3. Step 3

Have your skills assessed with the relevant Australian assessing authority. To find out the appropriate skill assessing authority for your nominated occupation, see Qualifications and Assessment.

  4. Step 4

Lodge your visa application with DIAC. The Victorian Government will advise DIAC of your sponsorship.

  5. Step 5

Once a decision has been made on your visa, you can gain registration in your occupation (if required), move to Victoria, find employment and settle in to your new life. For information on finding work, see the Working and Employment section. For advice on settling in to life in Victoria, see Find Settlement Help.
