Qualifications & Assessment
If you are planning to migrate to Australia as a skilled migrant you will need to have your overseas qualifications and skills assessed as part of your visa application. Working as a skilled migrant in Australia requires evidence of an appropriate level of skills and practical experience.
The Australian Government's Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) requires you to have your skills assessed by a designated assessing authority before lodging your visa application. DIAC has commissioned assessment authorities for your occupation to assist you in this process.
The following provides information to help you have your skills and qualifications assessed for migration.
Read DIAC Booklet 6 on General Skilled Migration
It is essential that you read DIAC's General Skilled Migration booklet as it will help you understand the steps involved in applying for your visa. This booklet is also available in hard copy from Australian embassies and consulates. It contains information on basic requirements for migration and processing visa applications as well as a points test and self assessment.
The table below provides links to Assessment Information Sheets that will help guide you through the pre-migration assessment process required by DIAC.
Assessment Information Sheets are available for all occupations on the eligibility lists. For more information on these occupations, visit the Working and Employment section.
