Biomedical Engineer - Assessment Information Sheet
To have your skills and qualifications assessed to Australian standards you will need to go through the following steps:
1. Assessment procedure
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has nominated Engineers Australia (EA) as the assessing authority for the occupation of Biomedical Engineer.
In conducting an assessment, the following factors will be considered:
- an accredited engineering degree
- the country in which your qualifications were obtained
- work experience
- English language competency.
EA has developed a Migration Skills Assessment Booklet to help you to prepare your submission for an engineering qualification assessment. This kit will guide you through the application process and provide information about the assessment.
For further information on EA’s pre-migration skills assessment requirements please contact:

Please note: The application form you complete will depend on the country in which you have completed your qualifications. You will either be applying under the ‘Washington Accord’ or the ‘Sydney Accord’. If your engineering qualifications are not recognised through these agreements, you may seek recognition through a Competency Demonstration Report (CDR). Please read the EA Migration Skills Assessment Booklet to find out the correct application form for you.
2. Supporting documents
As part of your EA assessment you will also be required to provide supporting documentation.
The required documents are listed on the assessment application form and include:
- certified copy of formal degree/diploma or certificate
- certified copy of your academic transcripts
- brief curriculum vitae.
All documentation must be certified true copies. Note that the name, status and address of the person certifying the copy must be clearly evident. Wherever possible, an official stamp should accompany their signature.
Make sure you keep a copy of these documents for your personal records as you may need them for employment purposes.
3. Send in your application form
Send your application form to EA with the required documentation and assessment fee.
Once your application, supporting documents and assessment fees have been received the assessment process can commence.
EA will then send you a written statement indicating that your skills either meet or do not meet the Australian requirements to migrate as a Biomedical Engineer.
If your assessment advises that you meet the requirements, you can submit this statement with your DIAC visa application.
4. Checklist
