Computing Professional - Assessment Information Sheet

To have your skills and qualifications assessed to Australian standards you will need to go through the following steps:
1. Assessment procedure
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has nominated the Australian Computer Society (ACS) as the assessing authority for the occupation of Computing Professional.
The ACS will assess people whose occupations fall under the following professional information and communications technology (ICT) classifications:
| Occupation | ASCO Code |
|---|---|
| Information Technology Manager | ASCO 1224-11 |
| Systems Manager | ASCO 2231-11 |
| Systems Designer | ASCO 2231-13 |
| Software Designer | ASCO 2231-15 |
| Applications & Analyst Programmer | ASCO 2231-17 |
| Systems Programmer | ASCO 2231-19 |
| Computer Systems Auditor | ASCO 2231-21 |
| Computing Professionals (not elsewhere classified) | ASCO 2231-79 |
Please note that not all of these occupations are on the Eligibility Lists, for the purposes of your application to the Victorian Government’s Skilled Migration Program.
There are two assessments available, skills assessment or recognition of prior learning.
Skills assessment
In conducting a Skills Assessment, three different skill levels will be considered, depending on the applicant’s level of IT education and IT professional experience:
- group A qualifications criteria and experience criteria, or
- group B qualifications criteria and experience criteria, or
- group C qualifications criteria.
Recognition of prior learning
Applicants who have limited or no qualifications but who have extensive and varied experience of at least six years, plus supporting professional development education may refer certified documentation to the ACS for assessment.
The ACS will decide which level of qualification is appropriate and based on this, will assess the applicant’s skills as suitable or unsuitable.
Further information regarding the above assessments and eligibility criteria can be found in the current ACS Guidelines.

All documentation must be certified true copies. Note that the name, status and address of the person certifying the copy must be clearly evident. Wherever possible, an official stamp should accompany their signature.

3. Send in your application form
