To apply for a visa visit the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) website who are responsible for all immigration matters including visa applications and processing.

Skilled Independent (189) visa

  • age
  • English language
  • nominated occupation
  • health and character requirements.

Skilled Nominated (190) visa

Entitlements Permanent residence
DIBP points test (minimum)
60
Additional requirements

Meet the Department of Immigration and Border Protection's basic requirements including:

  • age
  • English language
  • nominated occupation
  • health and character requirements.
Obtain nomination from an Australian State or Territory Government. 
Conditions
Visa holders must live in their nominated state or territory for at least two years.
How to apply
Apply first to the Victorian Government for nomination.
If this is approved you then apply to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection for this visa.

Skilled Regional (489) visa

Entitlements Provisional temporary residence (3 year visa)
DIBP points test (minimum)
60
Additional requirements

Meet the Department of Immigration and Border Protection's basic requirements including:

  • age
  • English language
  • nominated occupation
  • health and character requirements.
Obtain nomination from an Australian State or Territory Government or sponsorship from an eligible relative living in regional Australia.
Conditions
Visa holders must live for at least two years, and work for at least one year in a specified regional area to be eligible for permanent residency.
How to apply
Apply first to the Victorian Government for nomination.
If this is approved you then apply to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection for this visa.
At the end of the visa period you can apply for permanent residency.

Skilled - Regional Residence  (887) visa

Entitlements Permanent residence
DIBP points test (minimum)
Not applicable
Additional requirements

Must have achieved all the following:

  • complied with the conditions on your visa
  • lived in a Specified Regional Area for at least two years
  • worked full time in a Specified Regional Area for at least one year.
Conditions
Be a holder of an eligible provisional visa.

Temporary Graduate  (485) visa

This is a temporary visa valid for 18 months, with pathways to other visa classes.
