Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Industry in Victoria

Overview

Approximately one third of Australia’s information and communications technology (ICT) professionals are employed in Victoria1.

According to Multimedia Victoria (the State Government agency responsible for liaising with the industry), nearly all ICT companies in Victoria expect to grow over the next three years.

Victoria’s ICT industry includes:

  • telecommunications services
  • computer software, analysis and business services
  • wholesaling - ICT goods
  • manufacturing - ICT equipment
  • internet publishing, consulting and provision
  • computer hardware and maintenance.

Industry size

Multimedia Victoria, the lead government agency for Victoria’s ICT industry, indicated in 2011 that ICT companies operating in Victoria had a combined gross annual revenue of A$29 billion and employ over 87,000 people2. Victoria has more than 145,000 skilled ICT workers across all industries.
